Easy homemade Chai Tea Concentrate with black tea and warm spices, perfect for hot or iced drinks.
4 cups water
2 cinnamon sticks
6 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
6 whole cloves
1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
1 piece fresh ginger, about 2 inches, sliced
4 black tea bags, Assam or English breakfast
1/3 cup brown sugar or honey, adjust to taste
Milk or water, for serving
Bring the water to a boil in a medium saucepan.
Add the cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, cloves, black peppercorns, and sliced ginger.
Reduce the heat and simmer gently for 20 minutes.
Turn off the heat and add the black tea bags.
Steep the tea bags for 5 minutes only.
Remove the tea bags and strain out the spices using a fine-mesh strainer.
Stir in the brown sugar or honey while the mixture is still warm, until fully dissolved.
Let the Chai Tea Concentrate cool completely.
Transfer it to an airtight jar and refrigerate.
To serve, mix with milk or water to taste, hot or cold.
